Residents to comment on one way road conversions in Ottery, Claremont and Wynberg

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate invites all residents and road users to comment on a proposal to introduce permanent one-way systems along a portion of Strandfontein Service Road in Ottery; along Cheddar Road in Wynberg and Kenmar Crescent in Claremont. These proposals have been designed to improve traffic flow, enhance safety and create more organised road environments around the Wynberg High School; Herschel Girls Preparatory School as well as reduce a congestion point on Strandfontein Service Road, Ottery due to queued trucks. Residents have until 4 September 2026 to submit their input.

The proposal in Claremont includes:
A permanent one-way system on Kenmar Crescent from Herschel Road towards Highwick Avenue.
Parking bays along Kenmar Crescent in the lane adjacent to the school.
The City will be hosting a public information day on 13 August 2026 from 12:00 -15:00 at Herschel Girls Preparatory School, Kenmar Crescent, Claremont where residents will have a chance to speak directly to the responsible City officials.
The proposal for Ottery includes:
Permanently converting the portion of Strandfontein Road (service road), between the Makro access and the Business Park access into a one-way roadway (in the northbound direction).
Entry from New Ottery Road will be prohibited and traffic will have to re-route by two alternate routes.
The City will be hosting a public information day on on 20 August 2026 from 15:00 - 17:00 at Ottery Public Library, cnr Bruce and Edwards roads, Ottery where residents will have a chance to speak directly to the responsible City officials.
The proposal for Wynberg includes:
A permanent one-way system along Cheddar Road between Ottery Road and Kent Road in Wynberg.
The City will be hosting a public information day on 12 August 2026 from 14:00-16:00 at Wynberg High School, Cheddar Road, Wynberg where residents will have a chance to speak directly to the responsible City officials.
‘One-way road conversions close to these schools in Wynberg and Claremont and in the busy commercial area of Ottery will enhance pedestrian safety, alleviate congestion during peak periods and create more organised road environments in these very vicinities. Schools have a higher number of vulnerable road users during morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups and are therefore always key priority areas with regards to our traffic calming planning . I encourage you to view the proposals and maps and submit any comment or input you may have,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Residents can download the technical report and proposed layout for each of these proposals and submit their comments online via www.capetown.gov.za/haveyoursay or www.capetown.gov.za/collaborate or deliver written submissions to the Participation Unit, 3rd Floor Podium Block, Civic Centre, 12 Hertzog Boulevard, Cape Town.
